International Beatles Freak Day was my brainstorm, Jennifer Vanderslice. I am the owner/operator, President, CEO, CFO and web-mistress for the idea and website. (with a lot of help from my husband Craig!)
2. What is International Beatles Freak Day?
I wanted one day a year when I could walk in public and see other Beatles fans wearing their hats and shirts. I wanted one day when it was possible to go to a local bar and listen to a tribute band playing Beatles tunes for one night. It’s a day for Beatles lovers to celebrate the greatest band that the world has ever known. Up until now, the only days in Beatles history that gotten attention annually were John’s death, George’s death and the day the Beatles came to America. I felt that was an international need for a day when we could all celebrate the Beatles. 3. What happens on I-BFD? Anything you want. As a Beatles Freak, it’s your day…celebrate it anyway you see fit. The point is to just celebrate. Alone…together…publicly or privately.
4. Why is I-BFD on January 14th?
I tried to think of a day in Beatles history that would be considered the biggest day in Beatles history, but I soon realized that if you asked that question to an American, a Brit and a German, you would probably get three different answers. So I choose a random day. I actually have never looked the day up in Beatles history…so if it does have any significance, it’s just a coincidence.
5. Do you know what else “BFD” stands for?
Yes! And as I said in a recent interview, “BFD also stands for Big Freaking Deal”…and to us Beatles Freaks…this is a BIG FREAKIN’ DEAL!
6. What is Ringo Karaoke©?
Ringo karaoke is when an individual or band writes and performs a song using 5 or less notes.
7. Who are you to declare an international holiday?
Good question! I’m your everyday Beatles Freak who decided that Hallmark doesn’t have a license on creating holidays. (Though, it would be nice to see them create a card for I-BFD on day! ;-) ). It became obvious to me that if the world can have “Talk like a pirate Day” and “The Great American Smoke Out”, than there’s no reason why we FREAKs can’t have a day of our own.
